June 10, 2009...It is the third day of framing, and I am really impressed with what has been accomplished so far. Floor joists and second floor sub-floor are installed:
We're getting a better sense of the interior dimensions now...no matter how many times we draw the rooms on graph paper, it's hard to visualize what the finished spaces will be like. The room to the right of the poles will be the younger boys' bedroom...I think we'll be getting them bunk beds to maximize their floor space. To the left of the poles on the left will be the utility/mechanicals/storage/laundry room. In between the poles will be the hallway and closets.
I've been looking forward to getting up to the second floor to check out the view, and, again, the room dimensions, and Amish Ray had some questions for us. I had moved a few walls to gain some storage space, but my unskilled technical drawing ability became apparent when he was transferring my measurements onto the subfloor. What looked feasible on paper didn't translate well in wood and nails. So, he suggested a solution, and it works for us.
Thinking about the positioning of a few windows and the exterior kitchen door.
He also had a question about my walk-in pantry closet. He couldn't fit our 30" door into the pantry with the dimensions I had drawn, so we decided to build one wall out a bit, actually giving me more storage...YEAH!
Here's Ray marking the subfloor for the interior walls:
Studying our plans...in a loosely Amish rendition of Rodin's "The Thinker":
The back side of the house looks rather monolithic...but it will be backfilled to within 18" of the second floor, so most of what you see here will be hidden.
What a VIEW!!!
The boys are having fun jumping from the inside of the house to the outside...
and, of course, CLIMBING!!!
Looking through the boys' window again...
Oh, look...it's Gramps - Oops! I mean Hubby - using the temporary staircase:
And here am I, showing a (really interested) J-Bird where the steps to the 3rd floor will be. (I think he's actually looking up imaging where his room is going.) Or maybe he's calling on Wisdom from Above to help us get through this whole process. Which is always a good idea.
That's it for today...more to come tomorrow, if possible.
Stay tuned,
Kris

I simply CAN.NOT believe how quikcly things are progressing now! My goodness! While there was clearing to be done, and piping to lay and a well to drill~you couldn't really SEE the progress very well, though you knew it was happening. BUT now! The house is seemingly going up over night! I am so thrilled for you!
Rebecca,
It's amazing what 2 men have accomplished in just a few days! I'm really hoping to be able to "camp-out" over there by the end of July...Hubby isn't so sure. I can't wait to just be "settled" again...and planting a garden and enjoying our new home.
Your home is looking great...you and Matt have worked so hard and things are really taking shape. So glad things are going well for your family. And that Adele is so incredibly cute! You are blessed.
Thanks for stopping by...we know people are visiting, but few are leaving comments. Getting them is a treat!
You're putting miracle grow on that house, aren't you. It is amazing how much 2 people can accomplish when they are hard workers. Hope the rain doesn't hold you up too much.
